PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike County Sheriff Tracy D. Evans reports that a deputy was exposed to a potentially dangerous narcotic.
On October 31, deputies went to Long Fork Road and Cabin Creek Road on a suspicious person complaint. According to reports, Deputy Travis McKenzie made contact with a man, later identified as Jessie Johnson.
Johnson, reports say, was taken to the Sheriff’s Office after being arrested on drug possession charges. During the arrest, Sheriff Evans says, Dep. McKenzie was exposed to a white powder substance and began feeling sick.
EMS responded to evaluate the deputy. McKenzie, Sheriff Evans said, was taken by squad to Adena Pike for treatment. Jessie Johnson, reports say, was also treated for exposure.
Pike County EMA Hazmat assisted with the containment of the substance in the cruiser.
Additionally, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s STAR Fentanyl Removal Team decontaminated the vehicle.
Jessie Johnson is charged with two counts of drug possession, tampering with evidence, and felonious assault.
