ROSS, Ohio— The Ross County Sheriff’s Office, along with investigators from the state fire marshal’s office, continued to investigate a reported arson that occurred in June.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters from Jefferson Township responded to the area of Fyffe Hollow Road after receiving a call regarding a structure fire.
Firefighters on the scene notified deputies that the fire was suspicious as the residence had no power and appeared to be vacant.
Investigators spoke with neighbors who said they were awakened by what sounded like gunfire and someone running near their residence. It was then, reports say, that the neighbors noticed the structure ablaze.
Area residents said the property had been used for storage and was frequented by squatters.
Deputies canvassed the area but could not locate any additional evidence. The case remains underinvestigation.
Anyone with information about the fire should contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
