CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle injury crash which took place on Thursday at approximately 11:07 AM. The accident involved a 2003 Chevrolet Impala and a 2004 Saturn Ion, causing non-fatal injuries to both drivers.
Jacklyne D. Armstrong, 40, a resident of Chillicothe, was driving the Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Trego Creek Road. According to initial findings from the patrol, Armstrong’s vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign. Subsequently, it was struck by the Saturn Ion driven by 68-year-old Edgel P. Akers of Ypsilanti, Michigan, who was traveling southbound on US 23.
Emergency crews had to mechanically extract Armstrong from her vehicle. She was airlifted to OSU Wexner Medical Center by MedFlight for treatment of her injuries. Meanwhile, Akers was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center by Scioto Township EMS. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.
A passenger in Armstrong’s vehicle, Morgan H. Wright, 20, also of Chillicothe, suffered minor injuries. Despite this, Wright declined medical treatment at the scene.
Multiple agencies including the Ohio Department of Transportation, MedFlight, Scioto Township EMS, Scioto Township Fire Department, Huntington Township Fire Department, and Veterans Affairs Fire Department, all cooperated in the aftermath of the accident. As a result of the crash, US 23 was closed to traffic for approximately one hour to allow for the rescue efforts and preliminary investigations.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses. Both drivers are anticipated to recover fully from their injuries. Despite the severity of the collision, no fatalities were reported.
