ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — An ATV accident on private property in Ross County led to the hospitalization of the owner on Tuesday.
The crash happened deep into the woods, where no one could find the 911 caller. Deputies were guided to the accident site with the help of GPS coordinates provided by dispatch and an app on a deputy’s cell phone. Due to the dense overgrowth and rough terrain of the woods, ATVs were employed to access the site and locate the victim.
Upon arrival, Jefferson Township EMS stabilized the man, who had evident head injuries and complained of severe abdominal pain. Suspecting potential internal trauma, the EMS team requested MedFlight’s assistance.
The man revealed that the accident happened when he struck a rock while riding his Polaris Sportsman ATV to refill deer feeders, leading the vehicle to overturn onto him.
To facilitate his transport to Grant Trauma Center, a landing zone was set up at the old school lot on Jackson Street.
Before vacating the site, officials ensured the damaged ATV was safely returned to residence.
