PIKETON, Ohio — A bond of $210,000 was set on Wednesday for Chasity D. Bliss, 43, of Piketon, who is accused of driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash that killed her 7-year-old daughter.
The crash, which took place on Jasper Road in Pike County on Monday, involved Bliss’ vehicle hitting a pole and tree. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers reported that the child was not properly secured in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Additionally, Bliss’ 5-year-old child was in the car but was unharmed.
Bliss was arrested on the scene and faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and child endangerment. An eyewitness who dialed 911 shortly after the crash recounted, “She’s gasping for air; someone needs to get here quick. I saw it happen.”
Bliss’ next court date is slated for Oct. 25 in Pike County.
