ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — In a busy day of responses, deputies from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office attended to a range of incidents across the county on Thursday, February 1st.
The first call led deputies to Steinmeyer Road in New Marshfield following a report of altered mental status. Upon arrival, units engaged with the individual, ultimately determining that the situation did not warrant a mental health evaluation at the time. The deputies resumed their patrol duties.
A more serious incident unfolded on North Plains Road in The Plains, where deputies responded to an active domestic dispute. After conversing with the involved parties and witnesses, it was established that a physical dispute had occurred over a cell phone. Henry Gresham Jr., aged 36 of The Plains, was arrested for Domestic Violence and smoothly transported to The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Dollar Tree in The Plains became the focus of another call, this time for a shoplifting report. Deputies identified the male involved and issued a trespass warning, with criminal charges pending.
Deputies executed an arrest of 45-year-old Jeremy McClain of New Marshfield, who had active warrants from Athens and Meigs Counties.
New Floodwood Road in Nelsonville was the scene of a breaking and entering report, initiating an ongoing investigation by law enforcement.
Collaboration with The Ohio State Highway Patrol was evident when deputies assisted in a pursuit that concluded on Sawmill Road in Albany. The pursued driver crashed the vehicle, leading to his subsequent arrest on felony warrants. ACEMS transported the individual to the hospital for medical treatment, and criminal charges are pending.
Further domestic disputes were reported on Rainbow Lake Road, where parties were successfully separated, and on Carr Road, resulting in a trespassing complaint and subsequent trespass order.
Reports of reckless driving on Happy Hollow Road and Pancake Road in Nelsonville prompted a response from deputies to address the issue.
A 911 hangup call led deputies to Windfall Ridge Road, where upon investigation, it was determined that everything was in order, and no assistance was needed.
In Stewart, deputies investigated a report of juveniles playing in the roadway on State Route 329. Contact was made, and the juveniles moved away without further action taken.
An unauthorized use of a motor vehicle was reported, leading deputies to speak with all involved parties and ensuring the vehicle’s return.
The final incident of the day took deputies to Dutch Creek Road in Athens, responding to a trespassing complaint. After arrival, deputies clarified that the complaint fell within the realm of civil matters and suggested resolution through the court system.
Deputies were initially dispatched to Matheny Road in Nelsonville for a suspicious vehicle, but the call was canceled, and deputies returned to their regular patrol duties.
