PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Eastern Pike Local School District has been awarded a $24,577.50 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to launch a brand new Introduction to Canoeing course.
This grant money will allow the district to purchase everything needed to get the program off the ground, including:
• Canoes and a trailer for transportation
• Paddles and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) for safety
• Other essential equipment
The Conservation Science Curriculum and Science Club will spearhead the program, engaging students in learning about responsible outdoor recreation and water safety.
Eastern Pike joins nine other organizations across Ohio in receiving these grants, totaling over $250,000. Together, these programs will work to ensure people of all ages have the skills and knowledge needed to safely explore Ohio’s waterways.
