CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A high-speed chase through Chillicothe streets on Saturday evening led to the arrest of a man on driving under the influence (DUI) charges.
Deputies, reports say, initiated a traffic stop attempt after observing a green Ford truck speeding and failing to stop at multiple red lights on East Main Street. The vehicle, driven by Kevin Eugene Howard, continued at speeds exceeding 80 mph.
The pursuit continued through alleyways and side streets before Howard turned onto North Paint Street, where two other deputies joined the chase along with Ohio State Patrol and Chillicothe Police units.
Following the vehicle’s stop on North Paint Street, deputies said in their report, approached with their weapon drawn and ordered Howard to show his hands. Howard eventually complied and was apprehended.
A strong odor of alcohol reportedly emanated from Howard, who also has an active warrant out of Pike County. He refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, stating, “Why would I do any testing when you know I’m drunk?”
Howard was booked at the Ross County Jail and issued a citation with a court date of March 18th, 2024. He faces charges of Failure to Comply (F-3) and DUI, with further investigation ongoing.
