LUCASVILLE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the driver involved in a fatal crash on State Route 348 Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a Lucasville man on felony charges.

The incident occurred around 1:07 p.m. when a 2001 Chevrolet truck, driven by Phillip Ernest Jackson, struck a farm tractor operated by 74-year-old Edward Cable, also of Lucasville. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on SR 348 when Cable attempted to make a left turn onto Martin Cemetery Road. Investigators say Jackson attempted to pass traffic at that moment, colliding with Cable’s tractor. Cable was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the collision, Jackson was arrested on a charge of Hit-Skip, a second-degree felony, and has been booked into the Scioto County Jail.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. They were assisted at the scene by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Union Township Fire Department, and Union Squad 10. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
