CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Chillicothe Post is investigating a collision between a train and a truck that occurred on Friday on State Route 159 in Ross County.

A Norfolk Southern train, carrying approximately 88 containers and traveling northeast along tracks parallel to State Route 159, struck a 1989 Mack truck crossing the tracks westbound. The truck, driven by Andrew J. Jensen, 37, Athens, failed to yield to the train, authorities said. The impact caused the truck to overturn, coming to rest on its top between two sets of tracks.

Jensen was transported from the scene and later airlifted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with serious injuries. No injuries were reported among the Norfolk Southern crew. The train stopped about one mile from the crash site.

Train routes in the area were disrupted for approximately five hours as crews removed the truck and repaired the tracks. The Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Green Township EMS/Fire Department, and Norfolk Southern Police Department assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
