COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Morrow County man who robbed the same bank twice at gunpoint in the spring of 2025 has been sentenced to 171 months — more than 14 years — in federal prison.
James Travis Scurlock, 44, of Cardington, stole a combined $41,000 from a Huntington Bank branch near the Polaris mall in two separate armed robberies just months apart.
According to court documents, Scurlock walked into the Huntington Bank on Gemini Place on March 6, 2025, initially asking about opening a bank account. When a teller asked him for two forms of identification, Scurlock pointed a handgun at the teller and demanded money be placed in his backpack. He walked out with approximately $13,700.
He returned to the same branch on May 16. This time, he skipped the pretense, pointing the handgun directly at a teller before moving to two teller drawers and emptying them. He then ordered the tellers to the vault and loaded additional cash into his backpack, stealing approximately $27,700.
Both times, Scurlock wore the same outfit — a black sweatshirt, jeans, white Nike shoes, black gloves, and a white camouflage mask.
He was charged in June 2025 and pleaded guilty in October 2025.
