BEAVER, Ohio — Eastern Local School District was evacuated Friday morning after the school received a bomb threat by phone, according to the district superintendent.

All students and staff were moved from the building to the area of the school’s track and football field. The school administration confirmed all students and staff were accounted for and safe at the time of the announcement.

Law enforcement and fire department personnel were conducting a sweep of the building. Roads leading to the school were blocked, and the public was asked to stay away from the area.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office has not released any additional details about the threat.

Bowman said in the event school needed to be dismissed, families would receive instructions via an all-call notification on where students could be picked up.

This is a developing story. The Guardian will update as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: “Hello everyone, this is Mr. Bowman again. I just wanted to let everyone know that the Eastern LSD will be dismissing today at 12 noon. We just aren’t sure when we’re going to be able to get back in the building and rather than keep the kids out here all day and have a risk of rain, we’re going to go ahead and dismiss at 12 noon. Here are the instructions for you if you are going to pick up your children. You will enter the lower football field parking lot entrance off of Tile Mill, the parking lot that’s down by the pond. We will have pickups in that parking lot down at the lower end of the football field. When you come to pick up your children, you should enter the entrance off of Tile Mill at the lower end of the football field, and enter the lower football field parking lot. You will be directed there what to do. Again, we will be dismissing at 12 noon and pickups will be in the parking lot, the lower parking lot of the football field.

If you are a parent who is planning to pick up your child today and you do not normally pick up your child, you can text us on this number and let us know so that we will not put your child on a bus. The number is 740-935-7905. You can text that number if you’re planning to pick up your child today, and you normally do not pick up your child.

Thank you.”.
