COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol will run sobriety checkpoints in Scioto and Jackson counties tonight as part of a coordinated statewide OVI enforcement operation hitting 15 counties across Ohio.

In Scioto County, troopers will set up on State Route 139 at milepost 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. In Jackson County, the checkpoint will run on State Route 93 near milepost 14, also from 6 to 8 p.m.

Both checkpoints will operate alongside saturation patrols in the surrounding areas — a combination the patrol says is designed to aggressively target impaired drivers beyond the fixed checkpoint locations.

The operation is funded by federal grant money. Statewide, checkpoints are scheduled in 15 counties tonight, running from as early as 6 p.m. to as late as midnight.

Authorities are urging anyone who plans to drink to designate a sober driver or arrange alternative transportation before consuming alcohol.
