ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office were kept busy on Thursday, February 15th, responding to a diverse range of calls for service across the area.
One such call led deputies to Peach Ridge Road in Athens, following a report of a missing person. Fortunately, before their arrival, the missing individual was located inside the residence by the caller. Both parties assured deputies that they were safe and did not require further assistance, allowing deputies to resume their patrol duties.
Another call brought deputies to East First Street in The Plains for a well-being check. Despite their efforts, units were unable to establish contact and eventually returned to their regular patrol route.
In Torch, deputies were summoned to investigate a breaking and entering complaint. Upon arrival, the complainant reported theft from a garage and vacant trailer on the property. Items left behind by the suspect were collected for DNA testing by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
A report of a suspicious person on May Avenue in Chauncey turned out to be a false alarm, as the individual was identified as a sub-contractor for Frontier working in the area.
Responding to another urgent matter, deputies transported a female to the hospital for a mental health evaluation, ensuring she received the necessary care and support.
In Rainbow Lake Road, deputies assisted the Athens Police Department with an attempt to locate an individual, although their efforts yielded negative results upon arrival at the residence.
The day’s incidents also included responding to reports of domestic violence at O’Bleness Hospital, addressing a juvenile problem on Oakdale Road in Glouster, and assisting Athens County EMS on State Route 685. Deputies engaged with families, gathered information, and provided support where needed before returning to their patrol duties.
