CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Ohio Christian University (OCU) has announced the selection of R.D. Saunders as its next president, following a decision by the institution’s Board of Trustees. Saunders, an OCU alumnus, brings decades of leadership and educational experience to the role.
Both R.D. and his wife, Shelli Saunders, are graduates of OCU, and their return to the university is marked by enthusiasm and optimism from the university community. The transition to new leadership comes with anticipation for continued growth and development under Saunders’ guidance.
About R.D. Saunders
Hailing from Central Ohio, Saunders credits his early life influences, including family members and community events, with shaping his leadership journey. His connection to OCU began as a student, where he not only pursued academic excellence but also gained practical leadership and ministry experience. During his time at the university, he met Shelli, his wife of 38 years, and formed enduring friendships and mentorships.
Following his graduation, Saunders dedicated 22 years to pastoral leadership, serving congregations in Ohio, Florida, and Georgia. His leadership style, inspired in part by OCU alumnus Dr. John C. Maxwell, led to significant growth within his communities.
In 2002, Saunders expanded his influence by joining EQUIP Leadership as an Associate Trainer. There, he gained international experience and honed his expertise in organizational growth and leadership development. By 2009, he transitioned into a broader role as Chief Significance Officer at Network of Caring, where he oversaw initiatives impacting various global regions.
In 2017, Saunders was appointed Vice President of Advancement for EQUIP Leadership and the Maxwell Leadership Foundation. Under his stewardship, the organization saw significant growth, with fundraising efforts quadrupling during his tenure. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Saunders earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership in 2022.

Looking Ahead
R.D. Saunders expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to serve as OCU’s next president, emphasizing his commitment to fostering growth and innovation within the university. He envisions a future where OCU students excel as leaders across diverse fields, reflecting the institution’s core values.
“I am honored to return to Ohio Christian University, a place that has profoundly shaped my life and career. I look forward to building an incredible future for our students, alumni, and the broader community,” said Saunders.
