CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – A routine traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase during the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 26, resulting in the arrest of 35-year-old Blake Madru. Madru was apprehended after allegedly failing to comply with a police officer’s signal and leading law enforcement on a chase through downtown Chillicothe.
The incident began when a police officer, patrolling near an insurance agency, noticed a white van that failed to stop completely at an intersection. Recognizing the driver as Madru, the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Elm Street. However, Madru reportedly did not stop and instead accelerated towards N High Street, prompting a police pursuit.
During the chase, which spanned approximately 1.31 miles and reached speeds up to 53 MPH, Madru’s vehicle allegedly struck a police cruiser. The pursuit continued through several streets, with Madru reportedly running multiple stop signs and red lights.
The chase concluded behind 284 Yoctangee Parkway, where Madru was arrested at gunpoint. A subsequent check confirmed an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to comply with the signal of a peace officer. Madru was also cited for multiple traffic violations, including improper sound signaling, running stop signs, and driving under suspension.
Madru was booked into the Ross County Jail on his existing warrant and the new charges. The involved police vehicles sustained minor damage, which was documented and will be included in the official report. No injuries were reported during the incident.
