COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, raised $3.6 million within 24 hours of launching his 2026 Senate campaign, his campaign announced on August 19, 2025. The funds, drawn from all 88 Ohio counties, reflect a broad base of support, with 95% of individual donations under $100 and an average contribution of $53.
The campaign reported $3 million raised directly and an additional $600,000 through affiliated joint fundraising committees. Campaign Manager Patrick Eisenhauer attributed the rapid fundraising to enthusiasm among Ohio voters. Brown, who announced his candidacy on August 18, is seeking to challenge Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, in a special election for the seat vacated by Vice President JD Vance.
Brown’s campaign emphasized his focus on workers’ rights and opposition to corporate influence. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) endorsed Brown on his first campaign day, citing his leadership in supporting working families. Local media highlighted his advocacy for Ohio families and his pro-working-class platform.
The 2026 Senate race follows Brown’s loss to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024 by 3.5 percentage points. With Republicans holding a 53-47 Senate majority, Democrats view Ohio as a key target to regain control of the chamber.
