CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A tragic accident occurred on U.S. 23 near mile post 2 at around noon on Wednesday.
Zane Hilton, a 29-year-old resident of Chillicothe,, was behind the wheel of a pickup traveling southbound on U.S. 23. For unknown reasons, Hilton veered across the emergency lane, ultimately departing from the left side of the road, troopers said. His vehicle made violent contact with a culvert, followed by a guardrail, and then an embankment.
Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Hilton unfortunately did not survive the crash and was declared deceased at the scene.
Multiple agencies came forward to assist at the crash site. Alongside the Chillicothe Post troopers, the Franklin Township Fire Department, the Huntington Township Fire Department, and the Ross County Coroner’s Office were present to aid and investigate.
The specific circumstances leading up to the accident remain uncertain. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has initiated a thorough investigation into the crash, and further information will be released as the inquiry progresses.
