ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Huntington Local Schools closed Monday after receiving a threat, the latest in a series of incidents targeting the southern Ohio district, officials said.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office notified school administrators early Monday morning about the threat, prompting law enforcement to sweep and secure the buildings while the investigation continues. As a precautionary measure to protect students and staff, the district cancelled classes for the day, according to posts on its Facebook page.

Details about the nature of the threat were not immediately released, but the district described it as “another threat” in its initial announcement. Law enforcement remained on site, and the district promised updates as more information becomes available.

The closure comes less than a month after a bomb threat on Jan. 13 prompted an evacuation and early dismissal at Huntington High School. In that incident, the sheriff’s office received a call claiming a bomb was at the school, leading to a search with explosives-detection dogs. No devices were found, and the all-clear was given after students were sent home. The source of that call remains under investigation.

Huntington Local School District serves about 800 students in Ross County, roughly 50 miles south of Columbus. Sheriff’s officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the latest thre
